Best charging adaptor for iphone etc in car (12V)
Options
I have just bought a Citroen C3 Picasso 1.6HDI Exclusive.
30K miles on a 61 plate.
Immaculate interior condition.
Very pleased with everything so far.
It has mp3 and bluetooth connectivity - something very new for me in a car. It has 12V chargers for mobile phones etc. What type of adaptor do I need for iphones / ipod?
Many thanks.

Thanks
I see things other than 2.1A ... electronic power outputs etc is a mystery language to me.
We have iphone 4 & 5S & ipad 2 so use both older and newer types of adaptor to charge the i devices.0 -

Great link thanks.
The Ring dual usb looks a good buy for my needs.
Though the ad here states 3.5A ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00QMLPHTU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=271GLW9T9FL5N&coliid=I2XN7XEYVI4SA0

I had work IPhone 4s and now 5s both would not charge on 1A adapters, work fine with 2.1A and should be ok with the 3.5A linked too.0 -
The current from a standard downstream USB port that's primarily designed just to send data is 0.5A (USB2.0) or 0.9A (USB 3.0). Older laptops, PCs and cars may have those ports and charging can take a long time.
Many modern USB ports are 'charging' downstream ports (or even dedicated charging ports with no data, that you can build into a wall socket or other device); these supply 1.5A.
Apple's top charger outputs 2.1A and should deliver a nice fast charge. A multi-port charger with 3.5A total should be able to deliver a nice fast charge to two or more devices simultaneously. Modern phones have charging circuits to regulate the voltage and amperage that they actually draw.
I would get the one below rather than the one you linked, it's quite a bit cheaper and Cablematters have plenty of positive feeback while the one you linked didn't have any reviews.

I've just bought a Tom Tom multi adaptor for my 968, it plugs into the cigarette lighter, has 2 x USB ports (low power and hi power, IIRC 1.2A and 2.4A) with a cigarette lighter socket as well so you can plug an older charger (like the one for my mobile) in. Cost £10 off Ebay. I previously bought a similar cheaper device off Ebay, it did not work at all so I got a refund. The Tom Tom one does work!

i have an iphone5s and a couple of 4's and both these charge fine from one of these, which are cheap and fit neatly into the cigarette socket:

note, i didnt get it from this seller but it was the same item (a Griffin one)GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0 -

Thanks.
I noticed no Amazon reviews yet - though Amazon reviews can themselves be a serious cause of confusion if they varely widely.
The 'Ring' product was 4th in the AutoExpress top 10 linked by ChumLee so it should be decent.0
