Hello
Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for scrapping a car, either national companies or anything local (we are in the north west, specifically Bolton anything in Manchester area is good)
I have had a look at websites but can't decide what is and isn't legit.
Wanting to scrap a 51 plate Ford Focus MOT failure (OH doesn't want to look at eBay, Gumtree etc)
TIA!

There are private scrapyards that may or may not charge to take the car away and being a 51 plate I would presume would have many parts others could use and if it were me I'd stick it up online as come and collect only for parts in full or ring the scrapyard.0

With scrap currently at a lowly £65/tonne its really not very wise or moneysaving to scrap a car at the moment. Get it on Gumtree with all the pics and a full and frank description and you'll get at least double that. Ignore all the offers for a swap for a PlayStation etc., your guaranteed to get them.0

just stick it on ebay starting at 99p for the whole MOT failure car and see what it fetches. list the mot fail points.
many handy people may want to fix it up and keep it/sell it on.
the local scrap yards may even bid on it themselves.
make sure you mention it will need trailing away if it has no mot
if not interested in that route, then simply ring a local scrap yard and ask them to collectGC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0 -
I've used this company in the past, they are legit and have a few branches around manchester:
http://uk.emrgroup.com/
A) Ask for the scrap price for a carAsk if there are any 'standard deductions' (They might pay £100 per tonne, minus £20 standard deduction for tyres etc)
C) They only pay via BACS now (anyone offering cash is probably illegal!) so take bank details
D) Ask what time their cut off for payment is, might be 4pm. If you take it in later you will have to come back the next day to arrange your money
E) Take in your V5C!
F) Clear out the car beforehand
G) Usually you drive the car in, speak to someone at the counter then put the car on the weight bridge and hand over the keys
H) Ask for a certificate of destruction. Just incase anyone clones your plates or you get a fine for no car tax, you can prove you got rid of it legitimately
As others have said you might get more for spare parts selling it to a local 'breakers yard', so worth giving them a ring.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
