Alternative Futures Group-Withdraw Job Offer

Hi
I'm seeking some advice has anyone had any dealings with this charity?.
I went for an interview and subsequently offered the job subject to dbs(crb) check & references I knew not problem with criminal check as never had any problems.
My partner booked an unexpected holiday so I called the guy who interviewed me to ask if a problem what would start date likely to be?, he said August would be start date if all references back.
So the week leaving for holiday my copy of DBS comes through the post, my friend gave a character reference so knew around 20th the requests had been emailed.
I return from holiday in the early hours so the following day I call them see if they have everything/possible start date.
I was told no reply from old employer but lady dealing with my job offer on annual leave for a week!.
So they could not see her emails?, they suggested I contact old place chase up so I did no answer to my email so following day I call to be told no such email.
I call alternative futures hr dept to be told they can't send a reference request email?, so I ask why that was an a child can send an email/felt like being fobbed off. After a conversation of over ten minutes being put on hold for ages felt like person other end of the phone didn't have a clue said if lady back tommorow I just call back hangs up.
Man of my word call them yesterday to be told withdraw of offer as I'd apparently hung up?, I was aggressive allegedly so I questioned this saying if that was the case which it's not why can't the lady send and email or take ownership & resolve this reference issue?. I didn't make the decision call the person or email them to ask if they change their mind?.
I said does not look good I call after a month knowing you have my crb check and a character reference and you tell me you may or may not have my reference so i chase this up & told your staff can't send out a request email which a child of under high school age could do?.
Can anyone let me know if they had similar problems with this charity or how I could get to the real reason they withdrawn as sounds like might have no funding/nhs probs.
Is this common practice these days employers being so unorganised/picky?

To be honest, what you say you said, about a child being able to send an e-mail and hanging up when told to phone back the next day, and the general tone of what you say, sounds disrespectful and aggressive to me too. So I think you have the real reason.
From the way you write I would guess that English is not your first language because some of it is difficult to understand, so it is possible that you did not realise how you sounded, or what was being said to you - it is actually very common for people not to be able to access other peoples e-mails, and for them not to be able to intervene in a piece of work that someone else is doing. So it isn't that someone cannot send an e-mail - it is that they cannot send an email about someone else's work. When I am not in work, nobody else can see my emails and wouldn't be able to ascertain whether I had done something or received something. And they wouldn't pick up on my work unless I specifically asked them to handle something. They would have to wait until I was back.
If you didn't mean to sound that way, then it may be worth trying an apology and explaining that you didn't mean to sound that way, but having repeated the comment on a second occasion doesn't look good, so they may not reconsider. Given the client group involved here, it's pretty important not to appear to be disrespectful or aggressive, and they may have decided by now that you are not as suitable for the role as they thought.0 -
You come across as a bit of a challenge tbh.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Your comment about a child being able to send an email was really professional wasn't it.
You didn't really put yourself in a good light with the way you went about it.
Id start looking for another job.0 -
Thanks guys
I have been out of work for like four months so kinda desperate but to be honest. English is not my first language! brilliant love these forums!.
Anyways thanks for your replies I have found a job closer to home and better pay so it is win win for me, just helped me get it out of my system this kind of thing withdrawal of job offers did not happen twenty years ago when I first started work at a large bank.
Sign of the times employers have then pick now whereas when I started I could be the picky one.Bank Account: Abbey No Overdraft & Electron!, Lloyds TSB Premier,

It's not just the tone but the condescending attitude. HR have their reasons to not use emails as reference. You might not understand it, but that's why they are in HR and you are not.
You can't go into a job with an attitude before you even start. There was no need for it. Yes, it is frustrating when you are dealing with people who are not doing everything to resolve your issues in a timely manner, but that's the walk of life. You have to accept that everything takes longer than expected.
Take this as a lesson and do revisit how you might have come across. You can argue that you were not rude or agressive, but they clearly thought differently, and as a total stranger, just reading your post and what you claim you said, I too feel you were totally out of line and would have made the same decision, so it is worth reflecting on why people feel differently to you.0 -
Mentioning the company by name does not do you any favours either.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I have mentioned the name I am totally honest people don't generally have much honour or integrity in life at all I have met.
Its fine I have another job now anyway.
I'm direct i'll never be anything else people lie attempt to 'wing it' think thats the modern phrase I never do.
Their loss not mine, in any case I will be much better in NHS than these 'charity' type places which vanish as soon as the cqc see what patients really get in terms of care!.
Like idiots on this website they have no ideaBank Account: Abbey No Overdraft & Electron!, Lloyds TSB Premier,

Personally, with your attitude I'd give you about a week in the NHS, or you just might grow up.0

Please remember that for the first 2 years you can be dismissed without recourse. Of course if you don't fit in (and with an attitude like yours I think that would be a high probability) then the easiest solution would be to get rid.
I think the charity are well shot personally.
btw the phrase you're really looking for is being diplomatic.0 -
Their loss?! Deluded.0
