I'm not surprised you have called time on this! But many thanks for keeping it going (up to yesterday).
  • Same as everyone else here doc, thanks so much for all the work you put in, and it's a shame (?) that lots of the newspapers don't do deals anymore. Like loads I suspect, I visited the newspaper thread every day before deciding where I was going for the day miss all the bargains, and I know it must take a huge amount of goodwill and dedication to do this relentlessly. Maybe the mods could just post a link to the front pages, and if there's anything worth noting people could add to it? In the meantime doc, and everyone else who has contributed to the board and the posts over the years, thanks for the goodies. Thanks for the time and effort, and maybe see you back here if/when the deals are resurrected.

I'm one who dips in and out of your newspaper threads, hence only seeing this, just now. Used to do it a lot more but a combination of working more hours and not really seeing much of interest for quite a while reduced me looking.

I did get a 'taste' for how things used to be the other week, when I picked up a stress toy from the new InsideOut film - put away for DD's stocking and an ice-cream- eaten by Mr S within minutes of walking in with it! So thank you for all your work and thanks also to the poster who gave the link for the papers front and back pages.
  • Thank you for all the postings for the newspaper front pages and offers. I used to look at them alot but have to agree with others not so much now. The same can also be said of the whole of MSE I cant believe I used to log into this site all the time but some days now I dont even bother. It is a real shame as It was a great site back in its day but of recent the forum seems to have lost what it used to stand for - Money saving.

Thank you for all your newspaper threads. On my way to work this is the first thread I read looking to see which offers and coupons may have been printed. I know there is a significant decline in offers over the years but I also come here to read the front pages of the tabloids.

I do apologise that I don't always thank your posts for the effort you have made. In my defence this is because MSE logs me out each and every time I visit despite me ticking the remember me box. No other website or forum I am registered with makes me log in apart from the initial first visit, this only happens when using my mobile but it's very annoying and it has been happening for about a year now.

Thank you very much for all your hard work.

It's much appreciated in our household.

My mum always rings me on Saturday mornings to ask about freebies/offers before she gets the paper, so she has noticed the decline too. Sometimes she doesn't ring and says 'what's the point? There aren't that many!'.

I guess along with the decline in freebies is the decline in newspaper readership.

Thank you again. It sometimes seemed to me as if you were doing a thankless task. I remember getting cross once when a poster commented that either you were late or hadn't done it for a few days. And, as I said in yesterday's newspaper thread by redaglia, it annoys me when I see the number of views and then the low number of thanks in comparison (not popping at squiggles as you have a reason).

but also there are often coupons/offers in papers not mentioned on here as think people are losing interest due to general lack of bargain posts now.

Some interesting comments in this thread. I feel that MSE has lost its way, and has become far too regimented by Mods trying to control what gets posted into which forum. The Grabbit forum was legend - and now it's almost dead as a result.

MSE is fine for advice on any subject under the sun - but as a forum for exchanging immediate bargains it's failed completely, and HUKD now sees all the action.

The newspaper threads have become largely irrelevant because of that, I think. Very few people now come onto MSE looking for bargains and offers of the day. By the time they get posted here, members of HUKD have cleared the shelves! :)

I look at the newspaper thread pretty much everyday......as it happens I missed Thursday info and then just thought Doc had had a well deserved day off.
I , for one, will miss it. I try to check a few forums before leaving for work each day and mse provided me with that . Don't know if i'll have time to jump about checking other sites for bargains AND front pages.
