This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning all,
Bit overcast here atm and I think we are due some rain later on, off to work today and dd is coming with me today she is so much more helpful that the usual lazy chap that I have, so should get a lot done today !
Something and chips for dinner tonight, will go and loot in the freezer after this.
Shopping being delivered tonight and I need to put a wash on and have a tidy through,
I need to get some euros soon for the holiday so will start researching the best interest rates, our holiday is getting closer now and I cant wait, its been so long since I had a proper break.
Have good days all xx

Morning everyone.
The forecasters have promised us sunshine today so I've been up, stripped the happy bed and put the washing machine. Then I went back upstairs and into the huffy bed! It's fairly comfortable too.
This morning I have a two hour teaching session so wanted to get the washing out first. When I get back I'll do some tidying up and last minute checks on bags and so on. As I'm running down the fridge I can anticipate a takeaway tonight.
I'm hoping I can get the lawn cut later today if the sun gets out enough. If it's left for another two weeks it'll be difficult to do.
I asked for a bit of advice on another board and now getting 'attacked' by a couple of people for not doing as they do. It's so nice to get back into the cosy friendliness of this board.
Right, I will leave the huffy bed now and start my day.
Hope Thursday is good to everyone.0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you RR for starting us off.
GERS how unusual are those necklaces, they are lovely, I am sure the ladies will be delighted, well done you for finding something different. I would hate it if I was attacked on another thread. I don't post on many, but the ones I do are always friendly. Take no notice of them.
Very overcast here, Himself wants to finish some pruning of a conifer he started the other day, it is so heavy now it is pulling the fence, and I want to do some ironing which I didn't get round to doing yesterday.
I think it will be chicken kiev, new potatoes and salad for our meal this evening. Not sure whether DGD1 will be in this evening, she went to the cinema last night, and she usually stays over at her friend's home once a week so that might be tonight.
Have a good day all

Morning all
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, tummy more settled today.
I made hubby & my friend laugh yesterday, my friend was saying how much she enjoys being home & wished she didn't have to work, I said I was worried that if I didn't work I'd end up like a colleagues wife, who, although she is a couple of years younger than me is a full time geriatric. I don't mean health wise, just mentally. She has no hobbies or interests apart from nagging her husband & falling out with her family & the neighbours. I dread getting like that.
Today's plans include some housework & lots of crochet, I have the yarn for my virus shawl staring at me, but I'm determined to finish the 2nd baby blanket before I start the shawl.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning! As for old style living, I gradually realize that back to basics is much more important than ever if you wanna live a MSE life. Take soap for example, are you acquainted with soap? (I’m not suggesting you’re dirty… ) but I think millions of us are spending too much on over-packaged, over-hyped personal hygiene products. Yesterday I bought a handmade soap, instead of the store-bought variety. What surprises me is that a simple bar of soap would work just as well as a pricy pink shower gel, or a posh pressurised shaving foam. Today, I gonna try something different and old-fashioned methods to save money. Hope I could get some good from it.Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them.

Good Morning everyone, wet here this morning but due to clear and become sunny and up to 21 degrees, lovely!
GERS I'm so very sorry that you were attacked by mannerless and rude people posting on another thread, I hate it when it happens and feel that to some people the anonymity of posting under a user name negates all the social conventions that usually apply. Things they would (hopefully) never consider saying in real life seem to be acceptable to them. It shouldn't happen and there should be a requirement for appologies when it does shopuldn't there?
We're off to a foundry/woodburner centre this morning, we have (as I've mentioned numerous times before) an OzPig outdoor wood stove and these folks supply extras for 'Fatima' and I'm hoping to get an adjustable vented door for her and a fitted tool bar to hang the long handled cooking tools from. I'm also hoping that they might do cast iron dutch ovens with a flat bottom to use on her but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
I've been trying to adjust my diet a little of late, I've been suffering with uncomfortable bouts of indigestion and have for the past week taken wheat and sugar out of our food as much as I'm able. Certainly no bread/crackers/baked goods and sweeteners are maple syrup and honey in very small quantities. It seems to be having an effect as I certainly haven't had a sore tum for that period. I'm finding that food is tasting nicer too, can't be bad!
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -

Hi all,
Hester - I "retired" about 4 years ago (at 53) in order to be able to drop everything and go to my ailing parents when they needed me. I can honestly say I've not missed work one bit, a feeling confirmed by a few months of work at the end of last year. I find plenty to do and I'm sure if I ever get grandchildren I'll be even busier. I'm determined not to end up like mum who barely moved from her reclining chair after the age of 60.
i spent yesterday piecing a little wall hanging of Swaledale sheep for our Yorkshire house. I want to quilt it today and then I shall put my sewing machines away for a couple of weeks. One of them has a fault but is still under guarantee so I need to take that in to get it fixed.
I also have to go to St Albans to take a dress to one of DD's bridesmaids. I hope it's ok because she is pregnant and the woman in the shop ordered her a size 16 (she's normally a 12) which I think will be too big on the shoulders and back and will need lots of alterations.
After last year's anniversary debacle when DH didn't even get me a card after 35 years he has gone over the top in preparation. He asked what I wanted to do and I replied that I wanted to see the Eric Ravilious exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery (I think he was shocked because it's unlike me to be so decisive). He's booked the tickets and a restaurant and there are still 5 days to go.

Morning all. Miserable here and the forecast was half decent (ie no rain today) so I put some washing in early on and it's still waiting here in the basket 'cos it's raining!!
Well I had a sort of a good night out last night until one of the "girls" came out with a totally stupid remark. She knew full well what we are going through, the diagnosis and how worried I am re Mr TA and forthcoming treatment and then she asked if we had any holidays booked! I can't decide if she is stupid or thoughtless but it gave me a sleepless night and today I feel washed out.
We have the DGDs sleeping tonight as DD is on earlies tomorrow so hope I can have a nap later before they descend.
Have a good day all (((HUGS))))) to those in need. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It was very rainy to start but now the sun is out and I think it's going to be a very pleasant day.
Hubby has gone off to work ok and the girls are up having their breakfast before they restart stripping off the wallpaper in DD15's room. They got an awful lot done yesterday so hopefully it's not going to be too bad today. They are then going to fill and sand the walls before painting them. Once that room is done they are going to do DD14's room. So far this has been an excellent project to make them work together and touch wood there has been very little argy bargy from them
.
My friend is coming over for a cup of coffee this morning. I haven't seen her for a while so there will hopefully be lots to talk about. I will quickly tidy up the living room before she gets here although she has been my friend for years and has certainly seen my home in a right state sometimes.
I am going to make a chicken and vegetable curry for tea although my tum is playing up a bit so I will see how I feel later whether I actually eat any. I'd better get the chicken out to defrost soon though or we will just behaving egg and chips :rotfl:.
Well, that's all from me, I hope all of you have a great day whatever you are up to, especially those who will be off on their holidays soon, take care xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
Just back from a foray to Aldi in Grantham, they had fruit bbushes in at £1.79, so 8 founf their way home with us plus a bag of stuff I can only get at Aldi.
Its sunny, rain is forecast and it keeps going cloudy, but so far none of the wet stuff, hope it does rain it will save 18 cans of water for the garden tonight.
Might put a few more plants in the back this afternoon, depends on whether I go to sleep after lunch.
Its 7 weeks tomorrow since I had my pacemaker put in so I am going to start driving again. They said 6 weeks, so an extra week to make sure. I find it frustrating that I have to wait for OH to finish what he is doing if I want to go out.
Need to make cheese sauce, doing brocc and cauli gratin for supper tonight.0
