Can I Take Virgin Tel No to Sky?

Just had an online chat with Sky and the advisor said it was NOT possible to take my Virgin number to Sky, but the Sky website says -
"You can bring your phone number with you from your current provider."
I did query this, as I know that my sister kept her tel number, but this was 3 years ago and I don't know if it's changed since then?

I nearly took my number from Virgin to Plusnet, but at the last minute Plusnet could not complete.

I do know that if you had a Sky number which you then transferred to Virgin, it was not possible to bring it back to Sky as BT imposed a high charge to Sky for bringing the number back into their systems.0
