It sounds like he has been a little careless with his filling up of the tank and spilt some around the rim of it.
Try soaking it in warm/hot water for a while. You do get a fair bit of crud when you use them over time. I normally just soak them as above, use an old toothbrush to rub away and crud and then fit a new coil, fill up and away you go.
It does seem that it is either the above, or he has cross threaded it, which neither of them is a fault by the manufacturer/retailer.
Had mine for over 4 years and they are great, they do work.0 -
