Audacity help - anybody recommend a good new sound card?

Hi,

Ive eventually got broadband and want to use audacity. Ive set it up on 3 diff machines but cant seem to get it working on mine. The only recording options i seem to have are either line in or mic & neither seem to work when i want to record radio programmes.

Am i missing something obvious or do i need to get a new sound card? If so can anybody recommend one that is both good and cheap.

Are you using Vista? If so you need to enable stereo mix in sound properties.

Some soundcards allow you to record whatever is going to the soundcard output. I don't know how common this is but Creative cards always do. I usec a basi external Creative card with my laptop for such purposes.

im using XP & have a sigmaTel sound card.

I know that you have to select a particular option, but all im given is line in or mic.

Oh, and my machine is a Dell ....

It's unlikely that you have that option with the inbuilt soundcard.
