have an old dell laptop latitude c540, downloaded some updates from windows, now laptop wont work, got blue screen and message stop c0000269
The sytem DLL kernel32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly.
The relocation occurred because the DLL C:|WINDOWS|system32\GDI32.dll occupied an address range reserved for windows system DLLS.
Please can anybody help, before I throw it out of the window, tried starting in safe mode, wont work.

Basically there's an easy way and a hard way to fix the problem... I'll go for the easy ways first...
There have been a number of issues with some updates and various OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer versions of Win XP that come pre-loaded onto computers) and the c0000269 critical stop...
try the things suggested here first: http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2111p196id112479.htm
If you can manage to do a system restore to a point where your computer was definately working then that might help, and then don't update again until you know which update caused the problem.
If none of that works, a format and reinstall might be in order if you have all of the disks... try the other stuff first though...0 -
thanks for that will try easy option first :beer:have a nice day0

Dell laptops are rather easier to recover than loading disks! If you power it up and hold the <ctrl>F11 key combination you should get into the restore scren where you can revert the whole system back to the factory build.0

have tried that cant get into it, is there a knack when and how to do that ctr F11have a nice day0

Hello,
This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach. I regret to inform you that the Latitude C540 did not come with the Image Restore option (ctrl + F11). Windows will have to be installed with the installation cd.
