Songs that will play well on HUGE speaker systems

Hey guys,

I need to download 2 songs that will be played in a hall, which will have a professional speaker system with a lot of speakers (it's a wedding) and the two songs are hard to get..

I've found them both to download, but the thing is although they can sound alright on full blast on my 5.1 speaker set I was worried they'd crackle etc.. when played in the hall on the much bigger speakers (and a lot more of them).

Is there any test or anything I can do to find out if they'll do okay (apart from actually test in the hall).

Thanks.

One of them is 256kbps and the other is 128kbps..
  • mate, the 128kbps one will sound awful on a 2 quid set of speakers. You really need to find uncompressed versions of the songs (Wav, FLAC etc), failing that go for 320kbps MP3s, but 256 may be ok

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Can't be that hard to get "We will rock you" and "The Emerald" (could think of better ones if you give me some time...).

The 256k one shouldn't sound that bad, would be dubious about 128k though. Have you tried them through a home "HiFi"?

Okay, well thing is I'm also cutting them.. When doing that I can specify a bit rate.. is it possible to go higher than the original.. or should I just select the original?
  • you cant go higher than the original. tell us what songs they are, someone on here will have an uncompressed version, are u using something like Audacityto cut thyem?

You can go higher than the original but it will make no difference.

The bitrate doesnt really matter untill your getting lower than 128bit yes it lacks in defination and attack but it is really only noticeable by a few people really in to sound most people won't notice. It also depends on the type of music also clasical that uses a larger range will suffer from 128bit where as other recordings won't suffer as much.

It the recording is good then it will be good on what ever you play it on, you normally only get crackle if the source has crackle or you crank the volume up too high and the system cant deal with it.

What ever you do dont just crank the volume up and expect it to sound good, check the sound from the listening area, you dont want to be removeing everyones teeth with the volume do you. Yes its good to make things noisey but if it is a party people don't wan to be drownd out by he music, it should be used to enhance the atmosphere not make people put their finders in their ears and want to leave the room.

It's a bollywood song, so I'm guessing most of you don't have it.. And it's for someone performing in front of the audience so it would need to be loud!

    Thanks all.

If you knew anyone with the DVD of the movie they were from you could record the songs from that - there are loads of free software applications that'll allow you to do this and you could specify the bitrate yourself.
