Debt recover plus and small claims solicitors threat

Options
Hi folks

Sorry if this is repetitive but I live in Northern Ireland and can't find any recent information other than what was on the newbie page which is several years old. I'm just wanting to know is the advice still just to ignore in Northern Ireland or has anything changed?

For info purposes my original charge was a few months ago and was from UKPC. I had parked in an area beside a large store that had no road markings or signs to say no parking after I had driven round the car park several times and was unable to find an empty space. I was not officially in a parking bay and as I discovered later their other signage stages that 'all vehicles must be parked only within marked bays'. I was gone from the car for 25 mins and my ticket states that I was 'Not parked within bay markings' & 'Not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space'. I have made no contact with them at all and I am at the stage where I have now received the standard letter from Small Claims Solicitors threatening me with legal action/bailiffs etc if I don't pay up to Debt Recovery Plus. Do I continue to ignore or should I be forwarding one of Daisy's letters?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Unlike quite a lot of info available on the web the NEWBIES thread is continually updated thanks to the great efforts of the author.

The situation is still the same in NI.

File and IGNORE and they will go away eventually.

Scottish and NI residents are still in the enviable position of being able to ignore these scammers. :)
  • Brilliant thanks guys, just needed the reassurance 👍👍
  • I'm also at the "pay the £140 or we will take start court proceedings" which is completely ridiculous!! For parking is a free carpark (At B&Q Sprucefield BTW) wouldn't be paying that amount to make them go away now. Feeling a bit stressed about it still as Ive never been in trouble with anyone like this before, never even had a 'red' letter but I guess Im in it for the long haul. I tried contacting B&Q and giving them the "Ive been a loyal customer for X years and this is harassment line" but they couldn't do anything for me. I now Shop at ScrewFix :rotfl:
Its been 3 months since the incident and they are still harassing me.

I too noticed that for NI there isn't a lot of up-to-date info so I will def post up here my outcome.

If that's what they actually say, report them to the SRA for misrepresentation.

I suspect they used all sorts of weasely words to imply that's what they meant. They "may" "suggest" or "recommend" that their client takes action.

But ignore them, and don't interact with the directly.

Er, is the 6th of July 2015 is not up to date enough for you?

Check the date the thread was last updated. ;)

I know there is a lot of info to take in, but the devil is in the detail. :)

Yes, the NI-critical posts were updated just last month - and this is clearly indicated on the thread!

It really would help if people actually read the sticky instead of just claiming they did.

I did not know that, not very relevant but thanks, Will shop at my local builders yard from now on. ;)

You really think this is necessary? I am hoping the next letter will be the offer of reduced payment then I will feel better about it all. :( Still wont be paying it mind!!

Not strictly, it's up to you. It'd give you a stronger case should it ever get to court (it is hugely unlikely anyway), and may go some way to shutting these scammers down if their solicitors keep getting sanctioned. It'll cost them some hassle/time if it gets anywhere, too.

You should be firing off complaints about these cowboys everywhere you can. Just like they issue legally dubious threat letters :)
