How are tax credits paid?

Are Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit paid together at the same time into your bank account or separately?
Reason I ask is I made a claim for tax credits a few weeks ago and have just noticed a payment on my bank statement with the reference 'Child Tax Credit' and it is for less than I was expecting. Just wondering whether there may be another payment due which may have the reference 'Working Tax Credit' or are both of these paid at the same time?
Sorry to ask I'm being impatient as the award letter hasn't come through yet...
