my husband has just had a stroke,he was my registered carer.

what can i claim for travel (he is in a hospital aprox 100 miles away from home),and whilst he isnt at work (and will probably wont be again),is there any benefits/help i can claim as this was our main income.

am worried about how i am going to manage financially, and am confused by all the jargon so any explanation/help will be appreciated

He will not be eligible for personal independence paymennt for at least three months, and only then if he is likely to keep having problems from 9 months from that period.
    PIP is for care/mobility needs.

Employment and support allowance in principle would replace income, to a small degree. Exactly how much you would get depends on details - are you claiming PIP/ESA/DLA/... ?

Housing benefit may be payable if you are renting.
Council tax support if you have few enough assets and income to be entitled to it.

What benefits are you currently on. People can't advise if they don't know. Are you on income support, ESA, or WTC or none

Do you have access to bank accounts and such?
This is possibly the most urgent to get set in motion.
    Is he currently employed?
Contact his employer, and see what their position is - it may not be that they will immediately fire him, or he may have some payment over and above wages when he is finally let go.

The bank accounts will also tell you what benefits are being received.

'registered carer' is not a phrase usually used.
In order for him to be entitled to carers allowance, he would need to be earning under 100/week or so.

Are you in need of someone to care for you while your husband can't?

You must be getting either DLA or PIP care at middle or high rate for your husband to get carer's allowance. He also must be earning less than €102 (pounds) so it cannot be the main family income.

It is very important that you realize it's very early days and a prediction of how he will be long-term can't be made yet
