2nd hand Car - Cooler Leaking

Hi,
Need some advice if possible.
I have recently purchased a 2nd hand car 2 weeks ago (Was part ex for my old car), I have noticed this morning and coolant is leaking from the engine, trickling down the side of the engine. The coolant has become low and I was able to control the temperature of the car, via turning all fans and monitoring the temperature constantly.
I have recently spoke with the dealer I purchased the car from and they can take the car in to look at it Monday, although this is nearly a week away, but he has advised that I just keep an eye on it and top the coolant up when needed.
I have recorded all conversations with the dealer, I am aware that this can be done aslong as one person is aware of the recording (Myself). I have no paperwork from him except an invoice, and his word that it has a 28day warranty, I am aware of SOGA that could be used rather than the warranty provided.
I was wondering what my rights are in regards to what I should expect him to do, I am maybe thinking either a full refund or for the car to be fixed at cost to himself (When I say fix I dont mean throw a bit of Kseal into it), im assuming that he wouldnt be able to do this, or am I incorrect.
I dont want to be getting into trouble further down the road (No pun intended), if problems occur.
Should I ask to get it in writing, and if he doesnt etc...
Any help would be appreciated, im new to this as whenever I have purchased 2nd hand cars before I must have been lucky as they have been good and driveable.
Kind regards

My advice? Take it to them on Monday and see what happens!
There is no law against recording a telephone conversation for your own use but it is illegal to make the recording available to a third party without the other party's consent. But that will very likely prove to be totally irrelevant in this instance, they'll probably just tighten up a loose clip or replace a split hose and that will be that.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Keep an eye on it and top it up in the mean time. I wouldnt do any long journeys either if you can avoid it.
Dealer is following process so far.
I would imagine he'll find the leak and fix the problem.
It would be fairly daft to stick a K seal in for the sake of a rubber hose or tightening a jubilee clip.0 -
Kseal.. Bit dramatic
If it was head gasket failure your less likely to see water in the engine bay, you'd lose it as steam.
Let them look at it! A bit dramatic to be asking what rights you have at this stage0 -
If he can't, or won't, fix it to your satisfaction within a reasonable period, that is the time to start quoting your legal rights to him. Until then, taking a confrontational approach won't do anything to help. Let him have a look at it on Monday, and take it from there. Coolant leaks can happen at any time and can be from trivial causes. Don't go at him like he is a rogue trader - he might not have been aware of the fault and be perfectly willing to fix it for you. You'll know on Monday. In the meantime, keep an eye on it and no long trips. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Top it up before every journey, but dont overfill it. Just upto the maximum and keep an eye on the temperature gauge, Any sign of it climbing then stop.
And dont put cold water into a hot engine.
