one missed NEXT payment impact on creditscore

Hi!

Me and my Mrs never had any late/missed payments and we already have mortgage, leased car and credit cards on our names for past 8 years. Wife had a NEXT directory account and today she found she had £7 balance from last month statement she forgot to pay and NEXT told her they have given her details to the credit agencies. We made the payment over the phone with the late payment penalty today, but worried this will impact our credit rating? We never missed any payments before and have very good credit rating. Planning to move to a bigger house coming year and worried this will affect our mortgage application? We have joint mortgage.

cheers!

It wont affect your credit rating as no 1 sees it, it will however leave an entry in your credit file. If it has any affect then nothing you can do or how much it has is anyone's guess.

If you've had credit with Next for a decent amount of time, you could ask to speak with someone senior, and emphasise it was a simple oversight, and your previous history proves that, and would they remove the late marker out of goodwill, worst they can say is no.

Beyond that, one late marker on your file should not have too much of a negative effect on your ability to get a mortgage, especially if you can allow 6 months to pass before applying.

OK, cheers guys! We'll give that a try sending an email to NEXT explaining the situation. Is the cut off period 6 months before we apply for next mortgage? I read 18 months on another thread, so what's the waiting time for the late payment to settle down?

I would definitely phone rather than email. Be very polite and friendly.

Quite right. However, if they refuse, close the account immediately and tell them what a bunch of scum they are.
