Adding RAM

Dell Dimension E521 Desktop 32bit
Trying to add ram. Purchased 2 x 2GB to replace 2 x 512 Mb
Fitted in slots 1 and2 but only worked for about 2 minutes. Replaced originals all good again.
After some googling it seems 4 x 1 GB is the ideal.
My question is can I fit 2GB in slot1 and 2GB in slot3. Would that work ok?
Thanks

Unfortunatly I think that system has a limit of 1GB per slot with a 4GB max limit when all 4 are populated with 1GB.
You need to make sure you keep the memory the same way it came from Dell. If Dell used slot 1 and slot 2 then do the same, if you do not use the correct pair you will end up in single channel mode with only 2 DIMMs installed.0 -

Yup i think you're right.
I always check crucial.com/uk before i upgrade - they give you the info and compatible chips, so you can then go elsewhere and get them cheaper.
