I'm after any advice anyone can give me on building a Home Server
I currently have a "Tranquil PC - Home Server - SQA-5H running Windows Home Server 2003. It has 5 Hot Swap Drive bays. I only really use this for storing my media on. I think it is a good few years old and unsure how much of a life span it has left. I only turn it on when wanting to access my media.
I'm after upgrading to Windows Home Server 2012 (I already have a copy of this)
I'm after upgrading so I can leave the Server on at all time's. I don't need any HDD's as I will use what I have and upgrade them in due course.
I have just upgraded the HDD's in my current PC's to SSD's.
I'm after advice on how best to do this at a good price. What should I be considering etc...
Also
Should I consider a SSD for the operating system in the Server??

simpler solution - plug a disk into a tv/stb/router/nasDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

they were selling dlink dns320l off cheap , I have one with 2 x 2t red drives , works well enough , sits in a corner , set up to turn off late at night and fire up in the morning , all my film media is on it for my XBMC setup , and music for my audio streamer , cost me about £80 last year , £40 now , http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008HNRD4I?keywords=dlink%20dns%20320l&qid=1438695654&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
or as an easier non raided setup , find an old computer (small drive) load openelec on it , add as many other drives as you can find , that are formatted as ext4 , name the drives , set xbmc up once with monitor , any other machine on your network can see read and write to all the drives in ext4 , small cpu , !!!!!! all memory and made from bits ,0 -

You won't see a great deal of difference if at all in general 24/7 operation, however SSDs are generally more reliable than HDDs.
If you replace the main disks, HGST are looking the most reliable at the moment.

I assume you have a RAID set up ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
I currently use

Would this still work okay with DSN-340
I would assume I just swerve the Server version
Does the DSN-340 monitor all the hard drives like WHS does giving me the health status of the drives??0 -

As you have working kit and WHS 2011 (there is no whs 2012) already stick with it as it's already paid for. Atom D-330 not the fastest but adequate for a domestic file server however you might find WHS2011 a little more taxing.
A bit more information on what you currently do and what your expectations/needs/devices are would be helpful.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
