Hi in need of some help.
I been looking at buying a car just wanted a little runaround so I could get out with my new baby, he only 10 weeks old. I been feeling very isolated and my partner needs the car for work, working shift it's not ideal for me to take him and pick him up. I seen a few but kept missing out by the time I saw it. Last Tuesday I brought one, it seemed ok, looking back I should not have trusted the trader. On Wednesday morning the car broke down, my breakdown service can't be used 48 hours after the policy. I tried to contact the trader no reply. I ended up calling my garage who were very good and jumped started it for me free of charge. I then took it to another garage to get tyres.. Driving there i broke down again and I managed to break down a quarter of a mile from a garage, brought new tyres and battery. I then carried on my day, later that evening The car broke down again third time, with my baby in the car. I then had to leave on the side of the road and call recovery the next day (police helped and that was the best option). I called a my local garage and they picked it up and took it back to the garage for me for a fee, not as much from my breakdown through car insurance as it was still not covered. I got the car back and it was the alternator belt.
I then managed to get hold of the trader who refused to give me his work address. I brought the car from the street where 5 other cars where for sale, yes I know I was stupid, but also new mum that was not thinking.
Yesterday the trader said he would be willing to give my money back today. Today come and surprising he not answering his phone.
The boot lock is sometimes stuck which I would use regularly to put the pushchair in.
He got 4 other cars on autotrader that he selling. Different names but the same phone number.
I spoken to consumer helpline without any address I pretty stuffed.
I now have a car which I fine to drive, but I don't trust it, I don't feel safe. After it broke down three times in one day I just feeling I do not want to drive it.
I know I been screwed over but any other suggestions, I tried using another phone and answering it but won't answer now he knows it's me.
All I wanted was a little car that I could get out of the house. Been in a rural village I just feel I can't see anyone, transport takes an hour one way. I feel stupid and letdown.
I can't sell it until I get the logbook, that is if anyone wants to buy it.

stop worrying so much,
the annoying thing is that the battery was probably not faulty , just not being charged up because the belt from the engine to the (charger) alternator was loose, now that's done it should not cause you any more problems .
I am a bit worried that you had to buy a new tyre , or two , and the seller sold you a car like that.
find a good local garage , NOT kwik fit or HALFORDS , hopefully one that does MOTs , and ask them to check it over regarding safety ,
if its got major problems , all cars get old and worn , major probs , start chasing the seller down0 -
I agree with Freddy, it may not be that bad. Spend a few bob more getting it thoroughly checked over and you may feel better about it.
If you've got a name and it's not "John Smith" you might be able to find the geezer's address here:

Have you tried Googling the 'phone number? You'd be amazed how often that turns up useful information.Je suis Charlie.0 -
I had to buy two new tyres because of the had dread but bald on the sides, the garage said it would pass mot but they are not road legal, if the police stopped me than it would have been 3 points on my licence.
Now the boot lock is dodgy I do not want to be stuck with a pushchair no going back into the boot. My local garage that did the belt said its all fine, but I do not trust it. It might be me being a new mum being ultra paranoid. I just want to get my money back and look for something else.
Until the logbook here I can't sell.0 -
The tracking was totally out. Thanks though, as I say probably being paranoid..0

Que? Sounds like a dodgy garage to me too - if the tyre is good enough to pass an MOT its road legal - thats the whole point of the MOT! Sounds like its one of their 'Its above the legal limit, but below our limit where we reckon we can flog some overpriced tyres, balancing and tracking to some poor sap'
If you want a car with no faults, a warranty and piece of mind that it anything happens you'll be taken care of, head over to a Lexus garage and buy new.0 -
I'd bet the car was a trade in at a garage he works for and the MOT was done there, dealers often get rid of older cars this way rather than putting them to auction.
Check the MOT certificate for the address, because no independent MOT centre would have passed those tyres..... Not unless it involved "mates rates" and a special handshake.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

As above, do not take advice from the garage who said this0
