Windows 10 help if possible please

Installed Windows 10 and during installation changed settings so error reporting was turned off. All up and running now but I see from my security that error reporting is still in operation. How I don't know!!

Not being the sharpest tool in the box where computers are concerned I have tried to find out where to go to turn this off but can't find any help applicable to Window 10. Had a look round the system myself but I can't find it.

No doubt it is well hidden so you can't find it but could anyone point me in the right direction please.

Thanks

    Hello there,

This is based on Windows 7/8/8.1 but I'd hazard a guess and 'assume' the process is similar in Windows 10 (I don't use Windows myself so I don't know if this is the correct):

  • Thanks for that. I had seen this but the windows set up is different now and I can't even find the action centre! Told you I was hopeless :)

I go through to settings and no matter what I go on from there I can't seem to find anything that takes me through to a page which allows me to switch it off

The action centre is now bottom right on the taskbar (Square with lines and a small circle). just click it.....has tablet mode, connections etc etc and all messages.
What you want isn't in there though....:)
What was the Action centre is in the Control panel - Security and Maintenance. Try looking around there.
The machine usually asks before sending anything and I just hit cancel....

You aren't hopeless at all. Sometimes change isn't always for the greater good!

Action Centre is the new 'Notification Centre' in Windows 10. The former Action Centre is obtainable (under Security and Maintenance):

In the search box type security and maintenance and then select Security and Maintenance.

Was digging around and found it while you were posting, so, technically you beat me to it.;)

However, the 'Diagnostic and usage data' only gives you three choices. The 'Basic' turns on basic error reporting and is the lowest choice you have, The other two send back even more data to keep the system and apps running well. There is no choice to turn it off. So setting the 'Feedback' to never doesn't turn off error reporting.
I guess only having a local account would stop it doing this.

A couple of services to knock out and a reg hack to kill it properly.

  • Thanks everyone for your help.

I just knew it wasn't going to be as straightforward as I hoped.
