Oi, DTDfanboy, are you a total f'ckwit or just a partial one - just which bit aren't you getting?

Yes, it may be able to deliver 4.5A IF ASKED. However, no USB spec currently rates ANY of the charging systems beyond 2/2.1A so NO CURRENT DEVICE you plug in will EVER draw the whole 4.5A as no device you plug in will EVER ask for it! Maybe, in the future, a USB4 or USB5 spec MIGHT increase the maximum current requirement but right now it DOESN'T!

    NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!

And yet more insults, how pathetic :o

By all means read a wiki article and consider yourself educated, after all if it's not on wiki surely it can't exist :rotfl:

Perhaps instead of throwing around insults you could try lifting your game slightly, a bit of simple comprehension may be a good starting point. You can claim to be a Physics master, and an electrical guru, you can also claim that no device can ask for anything above 2/2.1A @ 5V but when there are hundreds of thousands of phones around the planet that do just that you end up looking a bit silly

Here's a few key words which may help in your Google quest for knowledge

"Qualcomm" "Chipset" "VOOC" "Quick Charge" "Storedot"

I wonder if one of these will run off a cheap hardwired USB socket :snow_laug

In short, are they worth getting or are they a bit !!!!?

Will they charge a device as quickly as the device's power pack charger would?

Also, do they need special wiring to fit, or can one be taken off and the new on installed?

    + to 50Twuncle's reply

I think they're worth getting...although apparently the USB standard connector is going to be replaced in a couple of years, so you may or may not want to spend the money on putting them in all over the house.

Re the last question - easy to fit, although it depends on the space behind the socket. That's why I bought the BG rather than the MK (which I would rather have had) just to avoid potential hassle (plus it's got a price drop at Screwfix at the moment).

Don't be fooled by some, there are loads of phones out there that will charge significantly faster using their own dedicated charger, give it another year and the vast majority of phones coming to market will be using the same tech ;)

    2A and 5V is so 2013 :D

To answer the question, yes I think these are good for the sockets where phones are always getting plugged in - we have a few in the kitchen & living room and they're v handy.

In my experience, one of my phones charges slowly when just using the USB socket. Also I have a fast charger for another phone which is obviously quicker than the socket.

For general convenience they are great though, we'll worth it IMO.

I think this would be quite useful!
