Hi everyone!
I'm normally a lurker but joined today and was hoping you could help!
My washer drier finally gave up today, after hanging on by a thread for months. We've had it for about 8 years and it's been repaired a few times and seeing as it's not even under a coverplan any more its time to replace it...
The thing is I'm totally screwed as far as paying out a few hundred quid for a new one goes and cannot/don't want to get credit for one.
I've seen appliance rental companies but are they just a waste of money? And do you need a good credit rating to use them?
Or does anyone have any advice for getting a cheap one?
I think I'll have to settle for a washing machine without the drier but when you have kids it makes life so much easier
Hoping someone can help..thanks in advance!!

Parts for washing machines are really cheap, just get your old one mended again and save up for a replacement, what you'll pay for hiring one for a year will pay for a new one...The money, Dave...0 -
www.freecycle.co.uk
Put a wanted ad on your local group. You may have to settle for a washing machine and separate dryer (stick the dryer on top if you have to). I did this and got a machine that lasted 6 months.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Agree with HugoSP re Freecycle nothing to loose, another place is eBay loads of machines going for next to nothing, the majority require you to uplift, in my case none were any where near me but if your down south loads.
Another place would be the local paper.0 -
Thanks for all your replies!
I posted a wanted email on freecycle but didnt get any replies unfortunately. Then yesterday whilst I didnt check my email one was offered and taken before I knew it!!
Anyway, have decided to get a new one. parts may be cheap but if you know nothing about washing machines then the cost of having someone fix it is nearly as expensive!!
Thanks again!0 -
It's awful when your washing machine breaks down, especially if you have children. Whatever you decide don't opt for the appliance rental one. The rental fee is high and the companies rely on people who have no money and are forced into renting so you would definitely pass their "credit check". You would need to sign a contract for 12/18 months so you'd be paying out a LOT of money.0

Yeah I have started to go off the idea a bit now that the initial panic has subsided!!
Keeping an eye on a few on ebay, otherwise will get a new cheap one. Might have a look at quidco etc..not tried those before...0 -
It might be worth going for as high a spin washer as you can manage & seperate drier. You'll be amazed at how much can just be hung on a hanger & is dry overnight (if you can't dry it outside). Makes more sense than a combined machine if yo have children too as you can wash & dry at the same time if you have 2 machines. Driers I often see on freecycle.
Tesco have a servis for £180, with free delivery. It's only a 1000 spin though.
There are several others under £200.
Also look in the free ads in paper, local shops, post office etc or ask around. If people are having a new kitchen they sometimes put in a new machine.0
