problem with electrics cause high bills?
is this possible?
we had the whole house rewired 4 years ago and since then our bills have been almost £200a month for electricity
we live in a smallish 2 bedroom terraced house. our neighbour pays only £50a month to electrics and he has a 3 bedroom house.
we phoned scottish power lastweek and they suggested taking reading every day for a week and then getting back to them.
we were on £64 a month for gas and electrics but got a bil through saying we need to change the monthly amount as we owe £400 extra so it wasn't being covered by £64
we have been taking the readings and they are pretty steady - 25 units one day, 13 next, 25 next, then 12, and 12 even though on the day before it read 25 units we did nothing in the house, the day before it read 12 units we did 2 washes and drying time.
we have switched our boiler off to see if that is faulty
does anyone know if electrics could have been put in wrong or something?
the light in our living room looks burnt as iff too much electricty is flowing through.
also sometimes if we switch off the computer at the wall the computer will still turn on iykwim?
I hope I made sense
just thinking how much money we have thrown away if they have been faulty - could we complain to the electricians that put it in?

12 units/day = 360 units/month = £36/month, assuming 10p per unit.
For 25 units/day, that's about £75/month.
For £200/month, you would need to consume about 66 units per day.
You might want to invest in an electrisave device to monitor your electricity consumption - they cost about £60, and are available on Ebay."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

Hardly an investment! This is a money saving site and the meter displays you your consumption quite adequately.

If you switch your computer off at the mains socket on the wall, it should not turn itself on ever. Please elaborate.
Do you have an immersion heater? Possibly a timeswitch somewhere? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

with regards to the computer - it's like there is too much electricity flowing through the wires, so even when switched off at wall appliances will work. even the bulb in the living room is black where the wire meets the bulb bit.
we are getting an electrician out to check, as scottish power think there is a problem.

For what purpose? The meter will do the same.
Electrisave are of little use to most people. A power measuring meter, costing a fraction of that price, will be of more use.0 -
Do you have white meter heating? Or some other type of electrically powered heating system?
i was told by an electrician that sometimes the actuator (the switch the turns the heating on and off) can sometimes remain permanently shut and therefore the heating is permanently on. A Scottish Power electrician who was checking my system said he had even seen that on occasions.
It's something else to check and eliminate.
As for computers - they use very little (as do bulbs) so i doubt the computer would be contributing greatly to your problem.
