Applying for Letters of Administration with Will

My Auntie just died and I was her attorney for 7 years. Having looked at all the paperwork and thought about appointing a lawyer I decided to do it myself. The two executors appointed in the will had already died.
Filling in the PA1 was okay but the IHT400 was quite tricky as there are extra forms for pensions, shares, bank accounts and using up a spouses' nil rate band.
However I kept going and have finally filled everything in and sent it off. I was unable to get her bank to pay the £220 fee so I paid it myself I am hoping I can claim it back as an expense once I am the executor.
Just waiting to hear from the probate office and the inland revenue now that all is in order.
Would love to hear from anyone else who has done it themselves.

You can certainly reimburse yourself for any expenses incurred by acting as executor/administrator (but not charge for your time). Keep a record of any outgoings you have to make.
I have dealt with a couple of estates and found the whole process very straightforward.0 -
Thanks for that it certainly is worth it to do it yourself, or at least that is my experience so far. From a cynical point of view if you are a beneficiary you are saving your own money!0
