Do I need to create an alias with Experian

Options
here goes
My husband and I are looking at applying for a mortgage so we can upsize, we have a mortgage broker already and have checked all of our credit files with Experian, equifax and call credit. Equifax and call credit have linked my married name to my maiden name but Experian hasn't. All it shows is that I have my Married name, my bank account which has been changed and the fact I am on the electoral register. It is giving me a rating of good as are the other 2 that have linked my previous name.
I decided to access my Experian report in my maiden name too which shows my previous financial history, it has dropped by 94 points because I don't have a bank account in my maiden name and I'm not on the electoral register (not an issue as they are in my married name now) but it is showing a delinquent account that was closed in December 2009.
My 2 questions are do I need to link my maiden name to my married name on Experian or will the mortgage lender still be able to see my financial history for both when I give them both names when I apply? And also with having a delinquent account nearly 6 years showing defaults on my accounts in 2008 which is 7 years will this have any impact on being granted a mortgage? Please help as I'm stressing over the alias link and delinquent account

I would say you need the alias added.

No idea on computer systems, but credit scored applications are automatic, so even if you tell the lender about your former name I doubt they'd be able to run a second application against it and match the two up, too complicated.

Normally an application will ask have you ever been known by any other name for this purpose.

Its good thing lenders don't take note of the score.

Thanks. I can only speak from my own experience and have never seen it happen in that way.

I don't know if all lenders ask the question but I know the RBS Group do.

  • So I don't need to do it myself then? They should ask and my credit history with my maiden name should automatically link? I just don't want to apply for the mortgage and it fail because of the lack of credit history

I think you would be better off adding the alias yourself.

I have an alias on my credit report as my surnames double barrelled.

Some companies show my names as John Smith and others show it as John Smith-Jones

I understand that your Experian Credit Report isn't showing your married name, you've mentioned account and Electoral Roll information are missing because of this, if you wanted to fill out and complete our Alias Questionnaire we will be able to assist you further and add this to your credit report.

If there are accounts missing from your credit report, if you haven't already done so you may want to add your previous address history, your Experian Credit Report will show six years worth of account history.

The delinquent account you have mentioned closed in 2009, this will automatically be removed from your credit report December this year, if you feel the information has been recorded incorrectly then please let us know as we will be able to query the information that has been recorded by your lenders.

I wish you both the best of luck with your mortgage, if you need to discuss your Experian Credit Report and the information that has been recorded please let us know.
