My elderly friend was visibly upset at receiving the letter and it spoiled what should have been an enjoyable weekend holiday. That is why the bank apologised.

I think that's really pathetic and my 96 year old grandma agrees with me*.

*she really does by the way. was just chatting to her about it.

tell the dozey bat to pay her bills then. Then she wont get such letters.

I don't know what's more concerning, that an adult is bothered by a standard debt collection letter, or that somebody has been on to the bank to have a whinge about it.

you can guarantee your letter was posted on the staff notice board for people to chuckle at.

Thats one good thing with a Tesco credit card they write off a balance of £1 or less. Its probably not worth claiming a dd for that month.

Seriously, you really need to find something else to do in your life if you're creating this much fuss over 20p!

No offence meant, but come on, you've got to see that it's a bit ridiculous.

But it's only one letter by the bank against twelve postings in this thread alone by the OP (and heaven knows how many phone calls and letters to the bank).

I can't help thinking about molehills and mountains.

If she's been assessed as lacking capacity, then she wouldn't be able to grant POA anyway - it'd be too late, and someone would have to apply to the COP.

Alternatively, if she's still got capacity (or is assumed to have it because of a lack of assessment to the contrary), then she could always grant COP that only kicks in if/when she loses capacity. She might go for that.
