What causes "totalperformance.com" and "Google short survey" to enact?

I have tried a variety of tools to clean out spyware: Malwarebytes, ADWcleaner etc.
What causes these sites to cut in when I have called for a bona fide web page? "Congratulations, you have been selected to take a short survey". What is "totalperformance.com"? Is it initiated by the website selected or by some code on one's computer?

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Thank you. I have given this a little time since I'm on leave. I am almost sure that the problem is caused by a Google Extension called "Adblock Super". I have replaced now with the similarly named "Ad Block" and cannot make the problem reoccur. My suspicions were aroused when I worked out that I was getting the problem across multiple computers synchronised to my Google account.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon.
