Replacing exhaust

Hi there,
The exhaust dropped off the car yesterday. I think it's the silencer that's gone as the car can still be driven but it's noisy. The roadside assistance people said that I'll need a new exhaust.
It's a 2005 Honda Jazz - does anyone know what I should expect to pay to get a new exhaust fitted, and if I should claim on insurance or just pay out?
Thank you

You can not claim on insurance, this is normal wear and tear.0

It depends on a number of things. Is the rest of the exhaust OK. If its just a silencer then its not too expensive but if the whole system is gone it gets more expensive. Also exhausts are wear and tear items they never last the life of the car insurance would laugh you all the way to the garage and then some.
Anyway silencer alone 70-80 fitted
Whole system + cat 300ish but the cat should be OK on your age of car.
Make sure they don't try and rip you off by telling you that you need the whole thing if the silencer is only at fault.0 -
Check under the car to make sure nothing is hanging down that might snag on the ground. If its all OK you can get away with going a short distance but I wouldn't recommend going far incase fumes start to get into the car.
I'm not sure what exhausts cost these days (it's years since I've needed to replace one) but I'd advise against going for a very cheap one as the real cheapo ones tend to be noisy in my experience.
Also the insurance won't pay for this as it's wear and tear.0 -
Thanks for the replies, it is my first car so I don't really know about the insurance thing, thanks for letting me know0

Insurance is for accidents, fire and theft, it doesn't cover maintenance of the vehicle! No free lunch, and no free laptop0
