Crackling on new phone

I've just replaced my old-fashioned corded phone in the bedroom with a digital cordless BT1000. (I have a virgin media cable connection.)
With this new phone there is lots of crackling/hissing. The phone works and I can hear the other person fine, but the background interference is quite bad.
My downstairs phone is a digital cordless Siemens which works fine with no interference.. When I unplugged the new phone and tried the Siemens in the bedroom the line was clear. No crackling, hissing or anything out of the ordinary.
When I looked on-line at the trouble shooting for the BT phone it said an ADSL micro-filter should be used. Can anyone tell me if this would sort out the problem before I go out and and buy one?
What puzzles me is that the Siemens phone doesn't have one and works fine when plugged in either upstairs in the bedroom, or downstairs in the hall. I wish I'd bought another Siemens now but the shop I went to only had the BT ones so to save myself a journey I went for that. I wonder if I could return it.

Have you tried the BT phone downstairs?. Don't buy a micro filter. Ask anyone you know who is online. They are likely to have more than they need and will be pleased to see one gone.0

Are you sure your master telephone socket doesn't have the (faceplate with) filter built in?
I'd disconnect the router and if the noise disappears then it's the internet to blame and lack of a microfilter.
That said, I am no expert, but I think all phones have to be equally affected, corded or cordless.
Why have you not bought just an extra handset for your Siemens?0 -
The BT phone is just as bad downstairs--maybe worse--perpetual hissing.0

Thank you. I'll try it with the router switched off.

I didn't think of that. We've always had two separate phones with their own sockets, so I just replaced the one that was looking a bit old and dingy.0
