How old to switch banks?

I always thought you had to be 18 to switch a bank account, but just clicked onto the Co-op switch page and it says you have to be 16.

Does anyone know if all switches are 16?

My son has an Adapt account with Natwest and is 16.

I think switching service works for *current* accounts only.
Most banks require you to be 18+ for a current account, but for some it's 16+: https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/current-accounts

'Adapt' doesn't look like a current account as it's for 11+.

Does he NEED to use the switching service?

At worst case, could he not just open the new account, re-set up any SOs and DDs, and leave the old account open to mop up any incoming credits?

Reading between the lines though, the question relates to switching incentives?

OP, Nationwide FlexAccount may be an option (to switch to Co-op) as the min age there appears to be 16.

Better make sure 'colsten' doesn't see this thread as this question has probably been asked on here before and you'll be shot down by them for not finding any previous threads about it!
