Ebuyer - VAT on delivery charge ?

Is this legal or are they just skimming some extra money ?
Ordered a camera from Ebuyer yesterday:
Camera £127.64
Delivery £4.15
VAT £23.07
Total £154.86
I don't pay VAT at the Post Office when I send something recorded or special delivery.
Are they right/legal in charging me 72p VAT on the Delivery cost ?

Ebuyer usually send good via City Link not the post office. Stamps are VAT free, Courier deliveries are not.
You are not being ripped off. If a business ordered the same item, it shows the VAT element on the invoice to see how much VAT is paid.
Ebuyer wont make any money on the VAT, it all goes to the government.(".)0 -
Yes it is legal and correct.
VAT on delivery charges works as follows:
1. If delivery is included in the item price, it has the same rate of VAT as the item.
2. If there is a separate delivery charge then:
A. If the goods have to be delivered (ie. you can't collect) then the delivery charge is VAT rated at the same rate as the items being delivered.
B. If the goods don't have to be delivered but you choose to have them delivered, the delivery charge is standard rated for VAT.

Just thought I would check, as some Garages try and charge VAT on an MOT by including the test as an item in the list of work and then VAT'ing the lot.
They always seem so surprised when you point out they should not be charging VAT on the MOT 'innocent mistake' my ar*s.0 -
I wouldnt worry with ebuyer as they are one of the best firms I have ever dealt with.
the always do as they say and over quite a few years I have only ever had one small problem with delivery and they gave me free delivery. I wasnt their fault but they city link van broke down.
I have used other similar firms and had quite a few problems.
Gnever take advice from broke or unsuccessful people
