transfering my ipod files to my new PC

hello,

I have just bought a new laptop after my pc died (taking a lot of my music with it) however my decent music is still on my ipod.

I have googled looking for a piece of software to transfer my files back onto my PC (Itunes wont let you do that for fairly obvious piracy reasons) and have found several.... however they are trial versions, one will only do 5 tracks at a time (i have 4000) and the other I tried copied about half of my music randomly so I ended up with lots of half albums.

so... does anyone know of a free piece of software that will transfer all my tracks with all their name data (and preferably playlists - but I dont want to be too demanding!)

I've never used an Ipod but can you plug it into your pc with usb, then browse it within 'My Computer' and copy files to your hard drive ?

Sadly not! Itunes are wise to that or we would all be copying each others Ipods/itunes etc... or thats the theory

In that case I'm baffled as to why Ipods are so popular, my wife has just bought one of the slim Samsung players and you can copy to your hearts content . . . not that I condone such activities. :D

I'm not an expert, but I thought that you could install itunes, "Authorise" another PC and then sync - I thought you could install itunes onto up to 5 PCs at any one time and sync between them all ?

I think that only applies to itunes store purchases, not just any music you happen to have on your ipod.
as far as I'm aware itunes itself will only work fully and completely with all audio sources on one single PC.

@ OP , Winamp supports ipod these days as well just btw, though imo yamipod is easier to use :)

  • I nearly got rid of my lovely ipod a few months ago, I don't have enough Hard Drive space for all my music, so after transfering it to my ipod, I archived it to DVD.

Next time I connected my ipod to transfer new music, because itunes didn't have the same music on my computer as there was on the ipod, it deleted all the music from the ipod.

As a freeware nut, I thought that there had to be another solution, and found a little program called Sharepod (after trying loads of others)!

It transfers to and from my ipod with out booting up itunes, and is simple and fast to use. I know I sound like im selling it, but it's completely free in money and clean in adware terms, and works really well.

I still have itunes, for podcasts and the itunes store, and you need it on your comp at least to start with, to help share pod to connect to your ipod, but after that, you can uninstall itunes if you want:D .

Just Google Sharepod, its at sturm dot net dot nz.
