HSBC Credit Card Application - I am confused !

Hi,
I am after little bit of advice regarding a HSBC Credit Card application I made on line this afternoon.

I applied via HSBC online banking as I already have a Bank Account, ISA and Direct+ investment account with them. The application was already pre-filled in with all my details including Salary etc, the only thing I had to complete was to say which HSBC account I wanted the Direct Debit to come from and if it would be for the full amount, I did this and got a confirmation screen to say my application had been received and I would be contacted by Secure Messaging within the next 2 working days as they needed to make sure they have the right card for my needs.

Now I would have thought it would be an Accept of Decline, but I have never had a message to say we need to make sure we have the right card for your needs.

Does anyone know if that is a good sign or bad sign ?.

Thanks.

Sounds like a referral to me.

I applied for their card earlier and got an instant acceptance confirming the limit, APR etc.

Sounds like it's gone to the unsecured underwriting team.

  • I recently applied and was accepted for a HSBC credit card. I too have a bank account, overdraft and ISA with them.

I got an on-screen message saying that they have accepted my application and advised me of the limit. I didn't see anything about being contacted via Secure Message. However, I did get an message a couple of days later from them congratulating me for being accepted that that I have to sign the paperwork and sent it back to them, the card will be with me within 5 days.
  • Just a quick update, got a phone call from them yesterday, they are sending out the Paperwork to sign and return and fill in the Details of the Direct Debit and any additional Card holder. Said it was a £6k limit.

Does this mean I have been accepted ?, or could it still be a no ?.

    Thanks

You have been accepted, but, in theory, they can withdraw their offer if some skeletons were to emerge from your cupboard.

But it seems to be only Barclays who frequently change their mind. :D
