ideas for Christening gift?

Can anybody help me with ideas as to what to get a baby for their Christening present? It's a long time since I went to a Christening, and from what I can remember people bought things made of silver, like a money box. I would obvs need to double check with other people going in case the baby ends up with 10 money boxes, lol, so was wondering what other things I could get.
What sort of things did you buy (or receive) for a Christening gift?
(The baby will be about 10 months old.)
Thanks

We are going to one tomorrow and giving money, have checked and baby has her own bank account. I can't imagine that people will want a whole load of silver knick knacks these days.
We did ask if anything practical was needed but, like many they have already been inundated with all the things considered essential these days.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

This beautiful coin carries an image of Paddington himself, carrying his suitcase and waving at his adoring fans. The obverse of the coin carries an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann, by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. Available in cupro-nickel and supplied in a hard-shelled plush-lined collector's box, it is a marvelous collector's item as well as a great gift idea. - See more at: https://www.iompost.com/stamps-coins/product/paddington-bear-and-crown/#sthash.CXFB0nNl.dpuf

£8.90 on ebayFor thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0 -
Last time I went to a Christening was when I was a student, so I didn't have a great deal of money. I managed to find an older silver rocking-horse money box for not a lot of money on ebay, and then I polished it up and got it engraved with the baby's name - I think in total the money box and engraving cost me less than £20. I always have loads of craft stuff so I some ribbon bows to put around the horses' neck, using pink gingham and organza ribbon and some small bells, and then I wrapped it up nicely in tissue paper etc. I know that the family still have it so they must have liked it!0

What on earth would you do with a gift like this - put it in the back of a drawer for years until it gets thrown out/given to charity shop/regifted?0 -

Yes, same here, I don't have much money to spend on the gift. What on earth would you do with a gift like this - put it in the back of a drawer for years until it gets thrown out/given to charity shop/regifted?
Well, I was kind of wondering that myself :rotfl: but some people do like memorabilia.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

I'm looking for a present too, I know it's tradition to get the baby silver but everything I've seen just looks like something that will be put in a box the next day and never come out again, I'd rather give a cheque or by a big toy that the child will enjoy for a few years. My ideal gift would have been premium bonds but only parents and grandparents can buy those.0
