good evening all
i wonder if anyone can give me any advice please,my partner of 10 yrs has asked us to leave his house, the relationship is ended,he doesn't get on with my 17 yr old daughter and I can't forgive an affair he had,we have a 8yr old son together
I have been to the council, they have classed us as homeless and we are awaiting a house, the lady at the council said i must claim child tax credits as I am only getting child benefit at the moment.....I have been a stay at home mum for all the relationship(he works full time on a good wage,he owns the house and his name only on everything,he wanted me to be a stay at home mum)
If possible i would like to retrain to be a classroom assistant so i would need to go to college, would I be entitled to income support, jsa or universal credit or something else....any advice will be greatly appreciated

So sorry to hear of your situation.
You need to take legal advice. As he is working and has property you could make a claim under the CHILDRENS ACT - for support and a lump sum. Its a little known act - aimed when the man has assets. Act quick so you can get a warning put on the land registry docs that will stop a sale as you have a potential claim under the act. Also go CSA plus go to Citizens advice to see what other benefits you can get.
The claim under the Children's Act can be a big one so dont lose time seeking advice.

You should go through CSA to get child support (if you don't have a private arrangement).
If you go to college you won't get JSA. You could claim housing benefit when they find you somewhere. Are you in a hostel in the mean time? Maybe speak to Shelter if you don't have anywhere0 -
Great advice above, if the local authority are working with you then its just cash benefits and maintenance. Yes apply to tax credits and JSA. You will need to sign on and start looking for work, hopefully you find work quickly. Apply to CSA for maintenance and also look at how much interest you have in his house. Don't let him get away without giving you what you deserve.0

As regards being a full time student at college you would be eligible for housing benefit, council tax reduction, tax credits and child benefit and your child support (which is not counted as income for any means tested benefits) as you are a lone parent.

Your best approach is to find the course you would like to do and then approach their welfare department to see what grants/loans you may be
eligible for. Some of these will be counted as income for your means tested benefits.
I agree that you need to get some professional advice about your relationship breakdown. CAB would be a good start and they could signpost you if need be.0
