Is my windows 8 an OEM or something else?

Hi folks,

My desktop came with an OEM copy of windows 7 home, does say OEM when I right click on computer and see the system id.

When windows 8 came out I bought an upgrade (special offer at the time) windows 8 pro for £14.99.

Now when I go into system in windows 8 it doesn't say OEM in the id, and the licence agreement says that I can transfer the copy to a different computer, or to someone else, though as its an upgrade to windows 7 they or I would have to have that on the new computer.

Just wondering then is this windows 8 licence really a retail upgrade as it doesn't seem to be an OEM?

I want to mess around trying to upgrade it to windows 10 rather than use the OEM copy of windows 7 still running on dual boot without any problems so far.

Thanks

showkeyplus can be used to show what version you have installed on your PC

As to the upgrade make sure your display drivers are uptodate and compatible before upgrade.

I would recommend keeping a full system/HDD backup so you can restore - just in case. Been there done it and needed the backup cos it all went wrong.

    Thanks

I also bought the cheap Win 8 upgrade disk, it is a Retail version.
I only got around to upgrading in January, by then there was a work-around to allow a clean install of Win 8.1.

    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

Use one of the generic keys found in the link below.

    http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/31093-activate-retail-windows-8-1-windows-8-product-key.html#post276952

Basically you download the Full Win 8.1, use a generic key to install, then change key to your key that came with the upgrade disk.
    Only then can you activate.
It does pay to read everything a couple of times to fully understand what you are doing. :)
    Move along, nothing to see.
