upvc doors quote

I got a quote yesterday from a salesman yesterday for a front and back door and a side panel on the front door. The quote started off at £6500. When I showed reluctance it went down to £4800 and eventually went down to £3500. I signed but am now re-thinking the whole thing. I was told I would be just getting a quote but then the high pressure talk started and eventually I gave in after two and a half hours just to get the person to leave. Also got t he phone call to the manager etc and they came up with the final deal they offered ifi signed on the day. Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal? I am pretty strapped for cash so don't want to overpay. I may also need to sell my house next year (for health reasons) and wonder if I will get my money back? Thanks in advance for your replies.

The first question has to be why did you allow this salesperson into your home? You have been bullied into signing an order which is exactly what they wanted, they have got everything they came for and you have been taken advantage of.
If you may be moving next year the sensible solution is to retain your doors and tart them up. Hence you save your money.
Local advertising fliers through my letter box are offering composite front doors for £960 and pvc doors at £760. This is not the cheapest company so there is room to negotiate. In addition, having two doors fitted at the same time gives further room to negotiate.
I would be budgeting at under £1300 for your job.
I do not know if you can cancel your order, so look carefully at the terms and conditions.
Finally, please name the company, and their office location, for the benefit of all mse Forum users. Only by doing this will you help to reduce the chance of other people being taken in by these people.0 -
The trouble is you get what you pay for. We got a cheap UPVC door and we were robbed three months later and it seems the !!!!s got in through our £960 door. (it only cost us £350 in those days). We then got an Everest door and we got back off holiday to find that someone had had a good go at the door but hadn't got in.0

Thanks to you both. I am pretty annoyed with myself for letting them in but I was assured they would only measure the doors and leave the quote. I will not do that again!0

Overpriced but I doubt you could get it for 1300 too . Depending on the job and any making good etc you could get it a grand cheaper elsewhere . If your moving house you could tart it up . New doors wont add profit or pay for themselves but your house would sell quicker and they cannot chip you because it needs doors . your shout if you want it . And you have a cooling off period if you feel the need to cancel . Don't like sales reps 80% of the time and hate them the rest:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
