Can I still claim for CPP?

Options
Hi there, just wondered if anybody could help me with the following:

I have a Barclaycard from around mid 2005 and it appears that I have been paying the much publicised CPP Card protection Insurance.

Sadly for me, I think I was contacted about the CPP Redress scheme last year - BUT what turns out now, I wrongly ignored it. To be fair, I am often hit with text, email, tv ads etc about all these mis-sold PPI / Insurance type things and I have just learnt to become immune and ignore them. I quickly dismissed this as "yet another PPI type scam" and forgot all about it.

So, randomly and a rather "egg on face moment" this week read an article about all these claims etc and how people were claiming back this money etc via the redress scheme. Which got me thinking back. I have since been online now to research and recheck and it appears this scheme has stopped taking claims now since February 2015.

My question is - Would I still be able to lodge a claim with say Barclaycard now - I'm guessing that technically they are aware of the mis-selling issue and should surely still have some sort of honour to a claim - at the end of the day I have been paying money (between £30 + £50) between 2005 and 2014 that by all accounts tricked me into doing so. I remember the card protection sticker and phoning them up to arrange!

Where do I stand? The redress scheme only deals now with existing live claims. Am I in my rights to contact Barclaycard direct here or has my own ignorance of dismissing my letter got the better of me?

Any help gratefully received.
Thank you in advance

If Barclaycard sold it to you and not CPP directly then you might be able to refer your complaint to the bank. I think the CPP redress scheme is closed, although I'm not sure if they can extend the time limit if there were circumstances which prevented you from complaining before the cut off date e.g. severe illness. I would phone CPP to check.
  • I just read your post, and find we are in a similar position - we are coming late to the realisation that we were auto-renewed for some 10 years without twigging it was all unnecessary. Did you make a claim? and how did you get on? We are wondering about doing the same...
