Painting/decorating a house

I've been quoted £4,500 for painting a 2-bed semi-detached house, inside and outside and including stripping and painting the doors and skirting boards. We're in south london but even round here it seems a big price.
What do you think I should pay someone to do this work, assuming he does a decent job?

This is similar to what I paid last year. It was around £4k for painting of 2 bedrooms, stripping of lounge and painting, and stirpping of hallway/landing and painting. Also included doors and skirting boards. Nothing outside though.
I had 3 quotes, and all were between 4k and 5k. It seemed the stripping takes time, and the cost also included sorting out the walls if wall paper had damaged it.
Like you I was surprised - but it is the time that cost with stripping of wallpaper. Painting a room is comparatively easy/cheap but if you don't start with a good wall it looks terrible.

It doesn't sound too bad to me. I have never had the outside and inside done together. However a redecoration of my hall and stairs area with repair to the plaster and partial stripping of old wall paper in 2010 cost me £2K. I say partial stripping. I had done as much as i could reach but there was still quite a bit left. I am also in London.0
