Sat/Sun 1st/2nd August - What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing This Weekend?
Comments
-
Good afternoon, starting a bit late today, but I've already listed 5 fleabay items

Also need to read meters, clean bathroom and walk my guest doggy, and not shop! I'm not going to food shop this weekend, just ifits (if it's in the cupboard/fridge/freezer in it's getting eaten).
I do need some drain stuff though as the kitchen sink smells, so will cycle down for that, might make a stop round the 99p charity shop too

Thanks very much for the stoozing info Determined.
Dawn/Hannah - the Santander info is good. We already bank with a branch of it anyway so that might make switching easier. Will make enquiries.
Hope DH enjoys his holiday Hannah too.
Foxgloves - I'm not a big co-op user, in fact barely go in there. But your bags do sound awesome. They don't do much advertising on them I don't think?
Hi JoJo
So I made it to the shops.
Couldn't find a baby book in Mr S, Next or Babies R Us which was a bit sad. But am sure there will be one online.
Managed to get a nice new welcome mat. A stacker box, pack of t shirts for son's school. I made the decision to go for age 6 instead of age 7 because there was a £1 difference on the packs. The way he goes through them they won't last till the end of the autumn term anyway so why pay the difference?
Bought a basics lettuce in Mr S for 55p then claimed 30p back via via Shoptize.
Found a 26p brand match coupon at Mr S
Uploaded my reciept and claimed 5p from Checkoutsmart
Called into Mr T and they uploaded the 2 reciepts I wombled yesterday. So that was worth 6 points.
Have baked a welcome home cake which is now cooling on the garden table (covered to keep the birds away)
Not a bad day so far.

We recently cleared a drain by pouring a whole kettle of boiling water down the plughole. Then a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda followed by a half cup of vinegar. Left this for half an hour then poured another whole kettle of boiling water down there.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Afternoon DFW-Jedis,
Had a great run around the loch followed by a walk around the (free) RSPB reserve nearby.
Then came home and discovered a statement from our housing association showing our rent had been paid late. We used to pay it in cash in the housing office. Then they stopped taking cash and recommended the online payments system through a third party. On investigation it seems that the electronic payment service recommended by the association for online payments now takes 7 days to transfer the funds not 3 days as it did for the first six months. So four of our rent payments have been late as a result. The payment website has no information about this change of timescale and nor had the housing association notified us that the timescale has changed. We're going to start paying by card in the housing office as this is just not good enough. And I feel a complaint letter coming on... Sorry, I'm moaning again...must stop it!
Nillionaire Month Two:

That's awesome. :j
If you wanted a more durable solution you could buy a £1 torch from the Pound Shop and take the springy coil out of that or make a new coil with a paper-clip and a pair of pliers.

Well, I managed to get one of the Co-op goodybags. Couldn't believe I was getting such a heavy bagful of food for free. Assistant said they'd had simply LOADS of people take up the offer.
(Bob - Our Co-op has all the same stuff as other Co-ops, but it maintained its independence from the national one when they merged, so we have our own Lincolnshire Co-op offers (despite our local branches not being in Lincolnshire!) & our own dividend scheme which seems more generous than the national one). As part of our minimum £15 spend to get the goodybag, we chose a Taylor's of Harrogate bag of coffee for £1-74 (an amazing price as it's not a cheap brand) & a couple of good-sized chickens at 2 for £7 to go in the freezer, so we felt we'd been savvy shoppers.
Successfully collected late item from Homebase. mr f asked for his Nectar points to be added, because although we paid for the item when we ordered it, we were told that the Nectar points would be added when we came to collect it. However, today we were told this wouldn't be possible because the time limit for adding points on is 2 weeks. We pointed out that the item had taken an astonishing 5 weeks to arrive, so these were in fact unobtainable nectar points. That, is apparently an unchangeable part of the system. Luckily for them (mr f is a lot nicer than me), I was in need of caffiene so I didn't stay to argue the toss!
All my ebay auctions are finished now. Mrs Snotty did not win item (Ha!). Overall total was £62-35. I was pleased with that as all items except one vintage postcard were things that had been given to me - mostly magazines. That will be a very welcome addition to the car fund once it's all been gathered in.
Off to pick the first of our courgettes now.
Skinnylatte - Ally's tip is good for sinks. Also, it's cheaper to buy a bag of the ordinary old fashioned soda crystals - usually about 99p - than the branded drain/sink unblocker products. If you decide to try soda crystals, make up a solution up in the washing up bowl or a bucket using boiling water from the kettle, stir well to dissolve then pour down the plughole while still really hot. They work much better like this than if you shove a load of dry crystals down the sink then pour water on top of them, In fact that can cause them to clump into sink-blocking hard white lumps, which defeats the object, but if you dissolve them first & use boiling water, they are very effective & I've twice unblocked a very badly blocked outside drain using these, as well as dealt with stinky sinks & slow-running baths.
Ally - I'd be really annoyed about the rent situation too. Why should you look bad, like a regular late payer when it'ts been caused by a change to the system?. Very poor customer service.
Heavy rain shower started, must go & close a few windows.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Ally, that is crazy about the rent payments, you should definitely complain! Thank you for the tip re the coil too, One of the kids play torches (fireman sam or something) went in the bin the other day when we sorted out their playroom as the plastic part was broken, I'd have thought there'd be one in that, I'll dig it out and give it a go. Re shopitize, not sure if you do it already bit its worth having an account each for double the freebies (so long as I you buy it on two receipts)

Thanks Bob, its all thanks to this thread & mse, I would never have thought of wombling receipts, using cashback sites, shopping apps, fpl, lucky phone & surveys etc!Following :money: to keep us debt free :j0 -
Hannah - Have to agree that Ally gives very good advice on mending things. Our old split water butt, which was so leaky it couldn't even hold a cupful of water is full to the brim after Ally suggested a few things we could try mending it with. Mr f set to with the two of them we'd got in the depths of our shed & so far, the mend has held & it's saved us buying a new one.
