In the NHS continuous service and reckonable service are two different things. Reckonable service is all the service you've ever done added up, continuous means all in one continous stretch, with only a short break being ignored.

I took VR from the nhs at the top of B4, and have gone back to a different job in the NHS at the bottom of B4. I start again with holidays too. And that's after 7 years service.

You definitely shouldn't start again with holidays. All time in the NHS is added together for holiday entitlement.

Any points beyond that explained in my earlier post is down to management discretion, irrespective of your previous role.

Shame the OP can't even be bothered to come back to the thread ...

    I'm back :)

I can't help with the answer. I just amazed, that after leaving employment with a redundancy package, there would be any automatic link between previous pay position and that offered on a new job.
I'm not being critical of the OP asking the question, just gob-smacked at the situation.

I take your point, but being made redundant shouldn't penalise someone from being able to negotiate pay, it's 2 bands lower not the same band. I would really rather not have lost my job in the first place.

It depends on competency levels - for instance if you were a Band 5 nurse and then returned as a Band 3 HCA then you could reason that you meet the full competencies required and could argue that you should be at the top of the band. However if you returned as a Band 3 Payroll clerk, for instance, then you would struggle that you meet the full competency required and it would be down to management discretion.

This is more or less what HR have just told me, I am going from a drug & alcohol worker to an admin role so not similar, however I was previously an admin worker in the NHS so will have a chat with the manager.

So you really need to check with payroll because it may not be as cut and dry as you think. Once your service has been severed for whatever reason, it may well be that you'll be starting back as a new starter and your previous service bay not be recognised

I've checked with HR that I keep my leave entitlement, it's in line with agenda 4 change, maybe it is different because yours was voluntary? I'm not sure.

Ohreally - 12.1 refers to 'continuous service' as the OP has been out of the NHS for a year, the continuous service is broken. When I worked in the NHS (just as AFC was being implemented) a break of less than 3 months was regarded as continuous.

At my previous NHS Trust, we wouldn't automatically start someone midway up a point based on previous service, it would have to be negotiated.

OP - I would recommend speaking with HR and trying to negotiate a higher salary.

There is continuous and reckonable, I've been out only a few months, I put within 12 months as I think I'd read something about that and annual leave, sorry for the confusion.

Give Unison a call. They'll give you a definite answer.

Thanks, I'm with Unite, think I'm ok with the leave sorted now, it looks like I need to negotiate with my line manager re the pay.

I would look into the leave if I was you, you should have kept that and wouldn't be far off the 10 year increase?

They should owe you it in either time or pay? Unless there is something about you not notifying them of your service?

You'll start at the equivalent point you were on before, but on the new band. For instance, if you were Band 5 Point 20 (+5), you'll enter at Band 3 Point 10 (+5).

Thanks, I don't think this applies to me with it being a different type of role.
