Declaring simple distal wrist fracture to insure & Go

Options
I fractured my wrist a week ago (just 1 clean break). I have just seen the orthopaedic doctor today. I am due to go on holiday in 5 weeks and the doctors say that I can go. I may still have the plaster but hopefully only a wrist support. I need to declare it to the insurer (annual silver policy).

Before doing so, I would just like to know if anyone else has had to declare a similar injury and what sort of response you got. I have checked my policy but there isn't enough detail about specific conditions.

Yup, broke my ankle a year ago. The insurer's attitude, though yours may be different, was that I could go provided I wasn't travelling against medical advice. BTW, make sure you tell your car insurance as well - they'll probably stop you driving until you're out of plaster/medics say it's ok to drive.

They wanted a small additional premium to cover it.

I have now been in contact with the insurer. Did you fly on your trip? Were you required to get the plaster split for the trip? NHS guidelines say that it is only necessary within 48 hours of having the plaster done but my hospital says otherwise. I will have to have it split unless it has been removed by then. I don't have to pay a premium because it concerns a holiday already booked but would have to pay more for a new booking.

No car so I don't have that problem

Sorry, should have been clearer: no flying (very long train journey, though, to southern Europe). Plaster had been removed by the time I went (about 7 weeks after the accident).
