Urgent help needed with tickets just booked please!!

Options
Can someone please help with my query, I'm getting so stressed!

I have just booked 2 tickets for myself and my daughter on First Great Western's site. As the price had gone down and there were only 4 tickets left, I just purchased the ones coming back from Falmouth to Sandy, where we live. My intention was to buy the outward ones another day, hoping the price for those would go down a bit.

Now, when I look at the details I'm getting really confused. Of course it's showing as being my 'outward' journey from Falmouth to Sandy, even though we will be coming back. Then, when I buy the ones to go to Falmouth, they will show as being a 'return' journey.

Does this matter? When we hand in our tickets for Sandy - Falmouth, won't the ticket inspector say that they are for a return journey (i.e. from Falmouth to Sandy?)

This is doing my head in and I can't work it out. Have I just wasted nearly £140?

Hoping someone can help, many thanks.

It won't matter whether it says 'outward' or 'return' on the ticket as long as it's valid for the direction of travel.

The conductor won't know whether or not you are returning to your original destination, or heading outwards from it.

Edit: Actually, having re-read I see what you mean. I am now not so sure. I thought you had purchased two singles.

I am not so sure if you need to have already used the 'outward' before using the 'return'. I'm sure someone else can chime in.

You bought tickets from Falmouth to Sandy on the day you are coming back from Falmouth. That's fine. Now you need to buy two tickets from Sandy to Falmouth on your intended day of travel. Ignore the first set of tickets as the next set will be a different transaction. Or am I missing summat.

As you have purchased Advance Singles, there simply is no concept of 'outward' or 'return' legs.

You have bought single tickets from Falmouth to Sandy, and will be buying single tickets from Sandy to Falmouth.

Sorry, what do you mean by 'Ignore the first set of tickets as the next set will be a different transaction?'

I'm just worried because our return tickets will actually say outward and for some reason that's got me flummoxed. Even the previous poster wasn't sure.

Thank you wealdroam, I was hoping you would see this post! I know it looks stupid when I read my post back, but it's because it said 'outward journey' when I'd booked and I thought 'no, we'll be coming home.'

...and then poster greensalad wasn't sure either, which got me even more worried!

I suspect (although I don't have any to check to confirm it) that single tickets ALWAYS say Outwards - it would be a non sequiter for them to say Return!

I received my tickets this morning and they've changed the way they print them out. Both myself and my daughter are on one ticket, probably because we have a two together railcard, although we had one last year and received separate tickets. Talk about confusing.

If it's the same as the tickets I got over the weekend then they will just say 'ADVANCE' and 'SINGLE' - it's only the confirmation e-mail that says outward or return
