What's your monthly spend on gas and electricity?

Hello!

I've not posted on these boards before but just wanted to get a bit of a comparison on gas and elec bills.

We live in a 4 bed terrace house and are £125 in debt on our bill because we clearly weren't paying enough on our direct debit over winter. It was £53 and it's been bumped up to £73 to pay off the extra.

Can people give me a rough idea of what they pay in the winter and summer for comparable houses?

We don't have kids so heating doesn't go on all the time but I do work from home a couple of days a week.

It would be great to know what others pay.

Many thanks
SR

  • 2 bed terrace, £52. That's with a small bit extra as a buffer.

Thanks Bluebirdman! That sounds like a sensible amount. My problem was budgeting too little

3 bed house, 3 people, temp never below 21c in winter.

    Electricity DD £26.00/month
    Gas DD £17.00/month

There is a little buffer in there that gets refunded at the end of the year.

    Thanks.

I'm on EDF Blue+Price Promise July 2016, with no exit fee. We have a small 1.5kW solar array which eats away at our base load, we have all low energy appliances, and we have remote sockets which allow everything (where possible) to be turned off.

I'm with Zog Energy - Mercury12 until April 2016 for gas. We have one of the top efficiency rated boilers which I have set low to keep it condensing as much as possible. We are also in an EPC 'A' rated house so heating is only on for 2 hours per day at 5:30 and 18:30 during the coldest winter days to maintain a stable 21c all day.

Basically, we have so little income that I searched hard to find this house for the basic reason that it costs so little to heat. It costs us £200 more rent per month than the 2 bed flat we left, but we are better off because the bills are so low.

I think there is still room for improvement. I will happily sit in 18c - 19c in winter and put on a jumper, but my OH and DD would never accept this. ;)

My DD is £105 a month but a better comparison would be yearly usage in kWhs..

I use 4000 kWh of electricity and 14,000 kWh of gas a year.

Electricity consumption is the same winter and summer about 11 kWh a day but I can use anything between 130 kWh of gas a day in winter down to 11 kWh of gas a day in the summer.
over 73 but not over the hill.

Family of 5; 2 adults and 3 children.
3 Bed Semi, 1930s house with cavity wall and loft insulation, double glazing, gas central heating, gas cooker, combi boiler, electric everything else.

We pay by DD - £45 per month.
Actual usage last 12 months: Gas - 3942.078 kwh, Electric - 2965.234 kwh.
Actually in credit by about £30 at the moment.
This is accurate. I enter our meter readings every month.

We also only pay £25 / month for our water (on a meter), again an accurate charge / monthly readings.

    Hope this helps! :-)

Annual consumption here (1990s 4bd house with lots more loft insulation, 2 adults, 2 kids, wife works from home):
    Electricity: 4333kWh
    Gas: 13051 kWh
But also have a PV system which generates about 3300kWh.
I pay by monthly variable DD so never in credit.
