Payment Protection Claim

I have payment protection insurance with my mortgage when we changed over to the chelsea building society we were given two years cover, last year i was off work sick from May and admitted into hospital in September the cover was suppose to provide hospitalisation insurance I was told I would be able to claim when discharged from hospital in December and submitted a claim i was shocked when i received a letter in January to say that I wasnt entitled to the insurance, reason stated that "according to your admission and discharge dates you were hospitalisedafter the commencement of your sickness claim, under the terms and conditions of the policy to be eligible to claim for hospitalisation you are required to be hospitalised within the deferred period of the policy this is the first 30 days therefore no benefit shall be payable".

I dont understand all this Jargon!! I feel like i have been mislead can anyone explain??
