Sorry that you are entangled in a mess not of your making, but a little self help will help.
As a new customer SP would have/will put you on their 'Standard' tariff ie most expensive
You can find out what the price detail of this tariff is on SP's web site, so with your move in and present meter reads you can work out for yourself what is owed.

I don't think it wise to rely on SP not sending you a bill before the anniversary of you moving in so you get a years free energy - Do WRITE to SP complaining that they have entrapped you in an expensive tariff, and you expect their billing when you do get it, to be based on the best tarrif they offer

    Hi,

I moved house in December 14 - to a new build property. Having done this before I know it can be fun getting addresses sorted etc. what I wasn't prepared for was Scottish Power not letting me have an account. Apparently they have "Technical Issues" setting up new builds (they were the chosen supplier by the builders unfortunately)

I have gone to the Ombudsman, they agreed a settlement and how it should be handled, and still they have not set me up. This is where I now realise the Ombudsman have no power. They can ask them again! What’s the point they ignored you the first time!

Has anyone taken it further once the Ombudsman has failed to get them to comply? Where should I be looking next? So far I have spent hours chasing this for 8 months, and I am losing the will now. I just want a legal binding that makes them fix it so I can leave them. Plus compensation now for all the hours of call letters, and emails. Let alone stress this is causing.
Plus I have no idea my energy use in my new house as I cannot log meter readings I cannot pay for the energy I am using, I am just racking up a bill of god knows what.
I can't even select a tariff that will save me money!!!

Help where next small claims court I am thinking, but don't really want to pay solicitor fees just to make them listen.

You don't need a solicitor to make a small claim. In fact if you do use one, you will never recover their costs even if you win your claim.

You can start your claim online today, yourself :)

Actually it's not currently working (down for essential maintenance), but I'm sure it will be after the bank holiday if not before
  • Unfortunately they have only offered free electricity as that was the meter that took the longest. The gas only took 6 months not a whole year!!! The ombudsman won't tell them to make any financial write off that is a commercial decision for the company. So after being messed for a year I have to now pay gas.
They only saving grace in this whole thing is now it is done I can leave them and never deal with this god awful company ever again.

just hope the address matches exactly on ecoes and xoserve
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
