Funding Your Paypal Payments Email

I have just received the following email (twice). It is genuine as I have gone into my paypal account direct (not through the link that was in the email) and updated the information. I have 2 bank accounts linked to paypal but this is related to a joint account which has always been the main funding source since I joined Ebay and Paypal several years ago.
Any ideas why, out of the blue this email has come through. I have followed the instructions in paypal and confirmed it but when I log back in it still shows as 'requiring approval'. Presumably then I will have to wait until the bank authorises it?
Dear
Your bank has let us know that there isn't a valid Direct Debit Instruction set up between PayPal and your bank account ending in ****. This means that you won't be able to use this bank account to fund any PayPal payments, but you may still withdraw money to it.
"How to make future payments with PayPal"
To use your bank account ending in **** to fund any future payments with PayPal, you'll need to re-submit the Direct Debit Instruction. To do this, log in to your PayPal account at
.... and follow the instructions provided in the 'To Do' box.
Otherwise, you can use a card to fund your PayPal payments. To add a card, go to 'Profile' and then click 'My Money'.
If you already have a card linked to your PayPal account, we'll use it to fund your future payments.

You said it yourself in the OP.
You need to log into Paypal and set it up again. There are no forms signed these days it's all electronic.
You may have to do the 4 digit verification with Paypal again though.0
