domain name move?

I have my own .co.uk domain, which I have via uk2.net It's quite cheap, and gives me a POP box at no further charge, but they charge extra for hosting and to get rid of the banners.

My wife's domain is held by 123reg, where the service is better, but we had to pay extra for a mailbox.

So the question is should I move or not - the requirements are the minimum cost so I get
- hosting for my .co.uk domain
- a POP Box
- some webspace with any advertising being unobtrusive

Any recommendations over uk2?

Thanks!

There are various sites where you can get a POP3 mailbox for free - you could just set up a gmail account, for example, which offers free POP access. With most domain hosting companies you can redirect mail from your domain to any address you choose for free - I'm with 123reg and you can definitely do this with them.

Ditto webspace, you don't have to buy it from the same company as domain hosting, although with 123reg it is £1.59/mo which seems good value to me :) but you could get some free webspace (there are lots of places to go for this, with varying degrees of obtrusive advertising) and use URL forwarding (again, this should be free with domain)

You could also use a free domain management service such as http://www.mydomain.com to set up e-mail & web forwarding.

Thanks - a further question relating to gmail. I understand that I can forward my .co.uk mail to gmail, and read it there, but can I send emails from the .co.uk account, if I'm using gmail's SMTP server?

    Has anyone tried this successfully?

I tried this myself, but it changed the 'from' address to my gmail address. So no, you can't do that with gmail. But I use my ISP's SMTP server to send mail from various different 'from' addresses with no problems. (UKOnline dialup).

UK2Net are awful. They're really really really expensive with terrible service - a client of mine used them but I made them move.
