cavity insulation claim

last year we had a call from one of the many insulation companies doing the free loft and cavity wall insualation. We then had the insulation carrried out.
Since then, the same sales person called round saying he was just calling as he had some concern about the work done by the company he had worked for ... had a surveyor with him who took a sample from the wall and concluded that the wrong materials had been used.
We then received a visit from a company called Cavity Claims UK who said that they would be able to get the work re done using the correct materials. We agreed to this. Then we recieved a letter from a solicitor who was acting on behalf of cavity claims uk and said that looking at the info they think we might have a claim...
i dont like the sound of this. It just seems like someone is making a few bob with scare tactics. There may be damp on a certain section of the wall but its not all round which surely it would be if the wrong materials had been used.
I am thinking that the best way forward is either;
ask trading standards to look into it
phone the original company (although they are bound to say that they havent done anything wrong)
Any ideas welcome!

There's some dodgy dealing in the insulation business, which is unremarkable when millions of £ from energy companies, forced to hit government targets, have been sloshing-around.
I know very little about this, but the site below comes with the endorsement of Jeff Howells, the Telegraph's DIY guru, who's been a critic of cavity wall insulation for years.

Hope this might be of some help.0 -
Nobody can be certain , but I believe that OP is being sucked into a scam. The story does not add up and OP should not have given permission for the sample to be taken. OP does not know if a sample was really taken, nor what the sample was. The sample could have been switched,... I could go on. Have nothing to do with this - it will end in tears and you will not have a valid CIGA guarantee.0

I'm skeptical of the Telegraph's cavity wall scaremongering. Yes some homes are unsuitable for CWI but the Telegraph seem to have an agenda of traditionalism/anti energy efficiency/global warming denial, which I think makes them unreliable on the issue.

This Forum is anonymous so all Forum users can draw their own conclusions. I am qualified to post answers on this Forum. I do not support the constant attacks on CWI, and I would point out that journalists have to earn a living. Geoff is a good man, but he is a qualified as a bricklayer if remember correctly. He has a good knowledge of building, but he would not be able to stand in Court as an Expert Witness.
Please let me make this clear. This is not a personal attack on Geoff, and he may have become qualified since my networking with him. Hence my judgement may not be current.
Equally I am saying take the Daily Telegraph articles with a degree of scepticism.0 -
A&M Energy solutions installed cavity wall insulation in my home. We had 3 years of condensation, damp and mould and it aggravated my Sons asthma. CIGA (the industry regulator and insurance people) came out and said the install was standard and I should manage the condensation.
I then had two independent reports that both said the installation was non-compliant and should never have been installed. I had it extracted. A&M Energy Solutions refused to reply to my complaint and after 7 months I took them to court. They paid me off before the court date. CIGA protects the installers and is not here for the consumer. Gerry Miller the CEO of CIGA took 72 days to reply to my complaint to him and only after I copied in Eric Pickles MP. He never actually answered any of my questions in his reply.
You can see what the did to my house here: youtube.com/watch?v=otl_EAH-1K8
I hear of a lot of mis-selling. This industry needs to be regulated and there is a lot of cover up in my opinion.0 -

I have responded elsewhere to this as it has been duplicated. Suffice to say you contacted Gerry miller to express your concerns. My understanding from within the construction industry is Gerry Miller is a cardboard cut out. As such he is not capable of producing a reply. My intuition is the response to Eric Pickles was produced by others.0 -
CIGA came out and inspected the property after I had major problems and said the install was to standard and no extraction was required. They went on to say that the condensation was the fault of the owner! They would have got away with fobbing me off, if I had not written to both the BBA and the CWI manufacturer who both came out and said it should be extracted as it was not suitable.
Not surprisingly CIGA are now trying to take credit for the extraction but writing to me saying the extraction was due to there intervention!!! Unbelievable!0 -
