That was the previous system, that they were NOT portable / transferrable. The theory of the new one is that the individual applies for the check, and any other employer / voluntary organisation who is entitled to check you can then see the results. How recently did you apply for your last one?

Of course, not every organisation will want to register to check for updates, but we find it's much simpler.

Starting new job soon so DBS check was done last week. Previous one was done in October last year.

In total I have at least 5 current DBS checks, all of which I registered. Despite that, every organisation I have worked or volunteered for has still done another check.

Ah, now that is a good point: there are separate tick boxes on the application to indicate whether it's for vulnerable adults or children, and I think there are separate 'banned lists' for each. I didn't realise that making an application for one rather than the other would mean making a separate application if you then needed both ...

This hasn't been the reason for me having so many done. I've done family work as well as work with older people, although more of the latter.

All of the boxes would have been ticked between the first 2 DBS checks but each subsequent organisation has done its own.

You have to pay an annual fee to register your DBS certificate(s), unless you're a volunteer. If I had paid I would feel my money had been wasted.
