Can anyone explain why, no matter how many times I reset my spell checker in FF to English UK, it keeps reverting back to English US?

It is frustrating having to constantly change the settings back when it tries to tell me its not colour but color, tyre - tire, authorize - authorise.:mad:

In my 'add ons', under 'dictionaries' I have
"English British Dictionary (Updated) 1.19.6" and NO others.

    Maybe you need that??

Likewise thats all I see displayed as an add-on.

Yet I find myself constantly changing spell checker from US English to UK. It seems to default back to US for some reason.

Try reinstalling firefox using the GB version:

What do you have listed under preferences>content>languages ?

A quick Google revealed it's a common issue. After an array of different tips, I managed to resolve it by deleting the US spellcheck completely.

Argh! My spellchecker keeps defaulting to Canadian! I've tried everything to fix it, but nothing works.

You do seem to have discovered that it is a known problem with firefox. I use Palemoon and it does have a work around where you can go into about:config and set the default language and after doing so English UK stays selected.

There is an article on the Palemoon site about it and how to do it.

I did have the problem myself with Palemoon until I read the article and made the small change to the settings.

Note that it only works for Palemoon and not firefox.
  • Even the UK spellcheck has some Americanisms still left in it.

Yep -- and it absolutely confounds me with some of the basic words it doesn't know!
